The Bearwood reading guide
Choose a book they’ll love opening.
A few practical details make all the difference when you’re choosing a large-print word search book for yourself, a parent, or a grandparent.

Start with the page
Look beyond
the cover.
Check an inside-page photograph and the stated type size. Look at the list of words as well as the puzzle grid: you’ll use both throughout the search.
Bearwood Press uses 18-point puzzle grids and large word lists. A screen image won’t show a reliable physical print size, so use the stated dimensions alongside the photos.
Check how the book opens.
If you like solving at a table or on a lap tray, a book that stays open can make the experience more comfortable. Spiral binding opens flat and can fold back when space is limited. Check the binding shown in the product photos.
Choose themes that feel familiar.
Think about what the reader enjoys. Classic television, travel, everyday subjects and nostalgic themes offer different kinds of pleasure. A varied collection gives them room to choose according to their mood.
Look at the puzzle format.
Print size alone does not tell you a puzzle’s difficulty. Check the grid, word list and directions. In Bearwood Press books, words may run up, down, across or diagonally, forwards or backwards. Every word has a checkbox beside it.
Make sure there are answers.
An answer key is useful when a word proves hard to find. Check whether solutions are included and where they appear. Our books each have an answer key in the back.
For a gift, check what’s included.
Confirm the number of books, their dimensions, whether pencils are included, and the delivery options. The Bearwood Press collection includes five 7.5 × 9 inch books and two pencils. The five volumes are currently sold together as one set.
Choose for the individual reader.
Reading comfort and taste are personal. Use the specifications and page photos to judge the format, and check the publisher’s support options. If you have questions about our books, get in touch.
